Today’s Scripture Moment comes from Colossians Chapter 3 Verses 23 & 24.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men….It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
Rick’s story today brought this scripture to my mind. The scripture is a good reminder and encouragement to us all in how we live our lives. As Believers we know our steps are ordered by God and yet the path WILL require hard work, struggle, and learning new things along the way….often times a difficult journey for the heart.
Rick shared his story of growing up in Northern Indiana and the influence of friends and music while he was at Taylor University…all leading him to take a year off and find out more about Christian music.
Rick explained that the life of a roadie was hard work and for him, required learning new skills. He also realized that road life for a single guy and a family guy was quite different. The cost of being away from a family could be devastating.
During the band’s transition with singers, they all realized a need to evaluate their motivation for continuing in music. What was their purpose? It had to be clearly to honor and serve The Lord. With this renewed commitment he was once again working hard and learning new skills for the stage. …how to relationally connect with his audience in sharing verbally and in the execution of a song lyrically and musically.
During those 11 years with White Heart Rick felt the calling of God on his life. He worked hard to adjust to changes and to do his best in serving Christ. This, too, is what is required of each of us. We need to encourage one another in whatever our individual work is and how we can best do it for Christ’s glory.
I hope you are encouraged today and will encourage others. This is John Schlitt and until next time LIVE IT LOUD!
