Today's Scripture Moment is from the parable of the Wise and Foolish Builders in Matthew 7.
The scripture reads in verse 25....
"..The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock."
This scripture came to mind because of the portion of story Bob shared today concerning his home literally taking in 5' of water during the flood of 2010 in Nashville AND, most importantly, God's word to him that "it is just stuff"!
God's word went into Bob's heart and did not condemn his grief over losing his beautiful piano or other meaningful mementos of family life. God's word came with comfort and understanding. God was assuring Bob that though he and Jane may have lost all their earthly belongings, it was, after all, just stuff.
As Bob's heart came into agreement with God's word, Bob was empowered by the Holy Spirit to let it go....even that beautiful grand piano he loved to play.
I'm sure the months following were not easy to walk through knowing they were starting over with nothing. But, in the end, the storm brought new realization to Bob and Jane of Christ's goodness as He brought them along the way of recovery.
Their knowledge of God's faithfulness deepened and brought renewed passion and opportunity to share with others what God had done in their lives. Retelling the story would encourage others and help to mentor young Believers in living for Christ, trusting him through whatever storms would come their way.
Learning how to build and sometimes "rebuild" our lives on the strong foundation of the rock, Jesus Christ is one of the most important lessons of life.
I hope you were encouraged by Bob's story today, I know I was. This is John Schlitt encouraging you to "LIVE IT LOUD!"
