Today the scripture I'd like to share with you comes from Jeremiah chapter 29 verses 10 through 14.
"When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you," declares the Lord, "and will bring you back from captivity."
Even though this promise from God is spoken as a part of a letter the prophet Jeremiah sent from Jerusalem to surviving exiles in Babylon, these verses hold within them Truth that is timeless.
Beginning in verse 10 the word "when" is small but significant. It speaks of God's timing in ALL things. The passage continues with God's promise that he has a plan.....a hope and a future...for His people regardless of what their present circumstances APPEAR to be. It speaks of His mercy and goodness in rescuing and providing for them. Most of all....if you look at verse 12 closely...you will see the little word "then".
God's plan and purpose in their situation and in our everyday life struggle is to always bring His called people...those living then, those alive today, and those people yet to be born.....into relationship with Him.
This entire passage reminds me, assures me, and encourages me.....especially when I hear personal stories like that of John Lawry.
From a far away country God brought a little orphan child and set him in a particular family to raise him (to someday know God for himself).....to develop and become His child. And, God is not finished with John OR us, yet. As His sons and daughters, we have a hope and a future in Christ NOW and as we look into eternity. So.......
