Guarding our Hearts
I'd like to share with you a scripture my friend, John Elefante, made reference to. This scripture is from the book of Mark, chapter 4 verse 14 with Jesus speaking....
"..The farmer sows the word. Some people are like seed along the path, where the word is sown. As soon as they hear it, Satan comes and takes away the word that was sown in them.....verse19 "but the worries of this life, the deceitfulness of wealth and the desires for other things come in and choke word, making it unfruitful."
I really appreciate John bringing up his struggle with the cares of the world and how after a time, he found himself almost numb or estranged from God. I'm sure we all have experienced the very same feelings at times.
I believe Jesus is sharing with his disciples two important truths about living in a very busy and difficult world.
1. The condition of our heart ...upon hearing God's Word ....determines our ability to accept Truth... and grow in Christ.
2. The warfare against the Word of God spoken to us ...and living in us ...is real. Satan does not want God's Word to transform our lives and bring God glory.
Let me encourage us all today to not only guard our hearts from what would damage it, but to also use what God has provided to replenish and nourish our hearts back to health.... through honest confession and prayer, close community with other Believers, using music that touches our soul and releases our spirits to praise and worship from a thankful and humbled heart.....and any other way we know to allow God's Word to soften and prepare our hearts for receiving and applying God's Word to our lives and moving forward in Christ.
We all need a nudge out of numbness sometimes. .... This is John Schlitt, until next time... LIVE IT LOUD!
